Our Approach
Walk missions such as Walk Saint David have been inspired by Luke 10 and are based on the vision given to Through Faith Missions' founder and principal evangelist, Daniel Cozens. The following provides an overview of the particular characteristic and style of these area missions.
Going to where the people are
"Let us go to Him outside the camp and bear the abuse He endured".
Hebrews 13v13 sums up Through Faith Missions' intentions: namely that the Gospel needs to be taken out to where people are and not confined to the four walls of the church.
Partnership with local churches
From start to finish once a mission invitation has been accepted a real partnership between the churches and TFM begins and continues right through the mission and beyond. Three local co-ordinators per church, or cluster of churches, are appointed by them and are briefed and supported throughout by TFM:
- A mission programme co-ordinator
- A prayer co-ordinator
- A follow-up co-ordinator
Simplicity and holiness
Jesus’ sending out of the 72 in Luke Chapter 10 has been the Through Faith Missions model for mission. We have embraced simplicity: Team members are asked to come without cars, mobile phones or credit cards, only bringing £3 per day to engage in pub evangelism. In particular:
- All team members sign up to a common Spiritual Rule of Holiness
- They trust in God for provision of food and other necessities, typically supplied through the local churches and host homes
- Teams of Walkers take this simplicity a stage further, packs and sleeping on hall floors.
- Mixed teams, for practical reasons, sleep in the homes of church members.
Bold but not aggressive
Walk mission teams have a friendly image and their approach to evangelism is gentle and non aggressive yet bold. They will go into pubs and, with the aid of Gospel beer mats, speak of Jesus there. They will also go into schools, colleges, workplaces, prisons, homes, churches and chapels, village and town halls and door to door with a personal beliefs survey.
Preaching and healing
When Jesus sent out the 72 in mission, see Luke Ch 10, he told them to heal the sick and to proclaim the nearness of the Kingdom of God. TFM seeks to follow this and its evangelists see healing as part of the Gospel and will offer to pray for the sick and anoint them with oil as they proclaim the Good News.
This may be done in the context of a Healing Service in a church, or in the context of an innovative Healing Cafe. Alternatively, it may take place in the open air or someone's home, or even on their doorstep should they so desire.
Making disciples
Evangelism is about making disciples, not just winning converts. Within 48 hours those who have responded to the Gospel are offered a visit from a team member or a local Christian. TFM is committed to follow-up of all enquirers by the local churches by encouraging them to set up an active post-mission program. TFM additionally offers support courses to help in making disciples of those who respond to the Gospel invitation during mission.
Young people
Reaching young people will be an important part of this mission. We are seeking to put together an exciting programme of culturally-relevant evangelism that will engage with the emerging generation and we are hoping to involve many local young people in a variety of outreach initiatives.
